Vermeer en Meer
Alik Assatrian

Alik’s art will be on display from April 5 to June 4, 2023

The most important theme in the work of Alik Assatrian (1960) centers around man and his emotional life. Dreams and poetry, love and fear take shape in a personal symbolism. Alik Assatrian studied art in his native Armenia. In 1993 he came to the Netherlands and through some wanderings  he ended up in 2002 at the studio Ánders Bekeken’ in The Hague, a place where people with a background in psychiatry develop themselves in art. He still works there as a supervisor.

His free artistry is central to his life. It is not uncommon for him to work on a painting for months before he is convinced that it has the right look. This certainly applies to the works of art that can be admired from 5 April at LOFT, a project that has occupied him since 2004. We are very honored that these works are shown at LOFT.

his homage to “the girl with a pearl earring” by Vermeer consists of a series of 42 works that can now be admired with us for the first time in the Vermeer year!!! In the course of his development, Alik regarded the great painters of art history as his guides.

They return in his ‘Girls with a Pearl Earring’. Each time the girl reappears in different styles and with different expressiveness. And yet this series also tells something about Aliks himself and his hidden love for her. Everyone is cordially invited to the opening of this special exhibition on April 16 at 4 pm. This exhibition, which also includes other works by his hand, is freely accessible in Cafe Loft on Wednesdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from Thursday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
